Smalling, 29, is a director at the world’s largest asset manager, the New York-based BlackRock Inc, which has some US$5.1 trillion in assets under management.
According to Forbes, Smalling is the “co-head of group that trades systematic strategies at BlackRock, using quantitative models to trade equity index futures and bonds for a US$6 billion hedge fund.”
He acquired Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Yale before completing his doctorate at the other Ivy League standout, Harvard.
Smalling previously worked at hedge fund Ellington Management as a quantitative trader.
